The full Way of the Hunter 2 release date was September 29, 2026. Version 1.0 launched on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. The date is not an estimate or a store leak: it is stated in the official Nine Rocks Games FAQ and in THQ Nordic’s launch announcement. This page separates that confirmed launch from the earlier Early Access period, platform-specific editions, and future roadmap plans.
The short answer
Way of the Hunter 2 left Early Access and launched in full on September 29, 2026. The official platform list is:
- PC through Steam and GOG
- PlayStation 5
- Xbox Series X|S
The FAQ says Early Access ran from March 26, 2026 to September 29, 2026. That means a video or guide recorded before September 29 may show a playable game while still describing an Early Access build. It should not automatically be treated as a Version 1.0 reference.
The game was developed by Nine Rocks Games and published by THQ Nordic. The Steam AppID listed for the PC version is 2543830. Store availability, local currency, taxes, bundles, and physical stock can change independently of the release date, so this page does not present one region’s current price as a permanent fact.
Early Access and Version 1.0
Early Access was part of the development plan rather than a separate final product. Nine Rocks Games says it used that period to gather feedback, adjust systems, and expand the game before launch. The official roadmap also makes the boundary clear: some ideas discussed during Early Access were not ready for Version 1.0 and were moved to post-launch work.
That distinction matters when reading older search results. A March or April video can still be useful for seeing a reserve, a hunting loop, or a piece of equipment, but it may contain controls, animal behavior, UI elements, or balance that changed later. Check the recording date and build whenever a guide makes a specific claim.
The FAQ says the developers aimed to preserve Early Access progress during the transition, but it did not promise that every save would transfer perfectly. Save behavior is therefore a dated release question, not a reason to assume every Early Access save is identical to a new Version 1.0 save.
Platforms and store versions
The official FAQ lists Steam and GOG for PC, alongside PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The FAQ also states that purchases are platform-specific. Buying the PC version does not grant the console version, and a console purchase does not create a PC license.
The current platform split also affects editions and bonuses. PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S had Standard and Deluxe options around launch, while the PC storefront followed a different Early Access and full-release schedule. The exact storefront presentation can change after release, so use the official platform link for the store you actually use.
Steam Deck is a separate question. The official FAQ says the game can technically launch and play on Steam Deck, but it is not officially planned as a supported platform and may require manual configuration. That should not be rewritten as “Steam Deck supported” simply because the executable starts.
Standard, Deluxe, and the Season Pass
The Deluxe Edition includes the base game and the Season One Season Pass. The FAQ describes the Season Pass as eight DLCs planned during the first year after launch. It also says the exact order of those DLCs was still being finalized. Treat the number of planned DLCs as a published plan, not as proof that every piece has already released.
The Heirloom Pack is separate from the Season Pass. The FAQ describes it as a bonus associated with Early Access on PC and pre-orders on consoles. It includes an engraved .243 Win rifle, a matching scope, a modern .270 Win rifle, and a bronze elk statue for the lodge. The same FAQ specifically warns that the elk statue is not part of the Season Pass; mixing those two products is a common source of bad purchase advice.
Owners of the original Way of the Hunter can also see platform-specific loyalty rewards. The official FAQ describes a 13% bundle discount and a free Night Hunting Pack for owners of the original game on the listed platforms. Verify the store account and platform before assuming a reward applies to a purchase.
Physical editions were planned for PC and consoles according to the FAQ. Physical availability, region, retailer, and language options still need to be checked at the store level. A release-date page can confirm the launch window; it cannot guarantee stock in every country.
What the release date does not prove
The September 29 date does not prove that every roadmap feature shipped on day one. The roadmap explicitly lists future work such as more multiplayer features, additional equipment, a new region, advanced dog training, and further trophy variations. Later patch notes can change the state of those plans.
It also does not prove crossplay. The Version 1.0 FAQ says crossplay between PC, PlayStation, and Xbox was not included at launch. That is a versioned status. Recheck current announcements before publishing a later answer that says the status is unchanged.
Finally, the release date is not a recommendation about which edition to buy. The right edition depends on platform, whether the Season Pass is wanted, and whether a bonus is still available in the relevant store. Use the official store links and inspect the current product page.
Release-date checklist
- Confirm that the listing is for Way of the Hunter 2, not the original game.
- Check that the platform is Steam, GOG, PlayStation 5, or Xbox Series X|S.
- Treat March 26–September 29, 2026 recordings as Early Access material.
- Compare Standard, Deluxe, Season Pass, and Heirloom Pack as separate products.
- Recheck the current store page for regional price, physical stock, and bonus availability.
- Use the official FAQ and current patch notes when a purchase question depends on a feature.
